Pickin' Thistles - Pickin’ Thistles is comprised of three siblings playing their favorite Celtic, folk, and bluegrass music. Hayden Walker, age 18, plays the mandolin, guitar, and sings baritone in rich sibling harmonies. Josephine, age 16, and Rosemary, age 14, add twin fiddling and sweet vocal harmonies to the group. Both Josephine and Rosemary are also champion Irish and Scottish Highland dancers who excite the crowd with their rhythmic footwork. Pickin’ Thistles has played at venues in southern Appalachia and the Carolinas including MerleFest, Appaloosa, and IBMA’s World of Bluegrass. They are active participants in the Junior Appalachian Musicians(JAM) program. They have won numerous awards a fiddle competitions and conventions including the Galax Old Fiddlers Convention, Fiddlers Convention, The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, and many more
Fern Hill - Music runs through the roots of Fern Hill, just like the Appalachian soil they grew up on. Arwen and Lorien Cockman started playing before they could walk, performing with their father, John, and his family band, The Cockman Family. Over the years they have developed their own unique and dynamic sound that weaves together Appalachian, Canadian, Celtic and Western influences. As skilled multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, their music pays homage to the past while creating something fresh and heartfelt. Their recent album, Sister You Sang to Me, is a love letter to their musical heritage. Filled with rich harmonies and instrumentation, their songs tell stories that echo across generations.
