Title: Saturday Visitor Center Travel Counselor
Reports to: Vice President of Business Development
FSLA Status: Part time, non-exempt
Organizational Overview
The mission of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce is “To promote, protect and improve business through the cultural, social and economic development, growth and sustainability of Blowing Rock while preserving the charm and character of the village”.
The Blowing Rock Chamber is a 501(c) 6 not-for-profit membership organization with approximately 550 members and an annual budget of $950K. The chamber receives no government funding. The current staff is 4.5 FTEs.
Responsibilities
1. Engages with visitors and members in the visitor center. Assists with lodging, restaurants, attractions, recreation, shopping, hiking trails, directions and general information about the area.
2. Uses Google or other search engine to lookup information not readily available.
3. Assists with relocation inquiries providing information on realtors, real estate developments, services, and other questions regarding potential relocation.
4. Answers phone assisting potential visitors, members or relocation requests as above. Gives directions to travelers, weather reports, special event information, phone numbers, and general information about the area and things to do.
5. Records contact information and member changes in database.
6. Prepares and organizes bulk mailing of Visitor Guide & Directory requests.
7. Restock brochure racks.
8. Keeps Visitor Center clean, neat and organized.
9. Keeps all storage of fulfillment inventory clean, neat and organized.
10. Prints current weather report for display in visitor’s center.
11. Records and tracks visitors.
12. Maintains Chamber’s archive books.
13. Completes any other tasks assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will:
1. Possess excellent oral communication skills.
2. Be articulate and professional in personal presentation.
3. Have a minimum of two years of front line customer service experience.
4. Must have lived in the Blowing Rock area no less than 5 years.
5. Work well with many people and people groups.
6. Be competent in all Microsoft Office© programs and learn proprietary database software.

Salary and Benefits
This position is classified non-exempt part time. This position works Saturdays and holidays except Christmas day and Thanksgiving Day. Part time benefits are described in personnel handbook.
