The Memorial Day service honors all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, especially those who hail from Blowing Rock. The program will feature remarks by the distinguished Major General William S. (Bill) Busby III, Mobilization Assistant to the Deputy Commander, United States Strategic Command. The United States Strategic Command’s operational mission areas include full-spectrum global strike, space operations, computer network operations, Department of Defense information operations, strategic warning, integrated missile defense, global C4ISR, combatting weapons of mass destruction and specialized expertise to the joint warfighter. General Busby is an honor graduate of North Carolina State University (Materials Engineering) and earned a Masters of Business Administration from the College of William and Mary. Prior to his current assignment, General Busby was the Commander of the Virginia Air National Guard. He is a command pilot with more than 3600 flying hours. Over the course of his 50-year military career he has received numerous medals and other awards, including a Bronze Star Medal. The 2025 Memorial Day Service is sponsored by the Blowing Rock Civic Association.
